Horse still mildly lame in front left we think. Vet had me running up and down the main road till I went lame. Strange thing the more we trotted the sounder she went, eventually lunged her and couldn't see any lameness. Vet advised course of reducing dose of
Buite rest then start her in walk. He thought she wasn't lame enough to start nerve blocks etc as the lameness was so low grade and intermittent it would be difficult to see the difference. He didn't think it a tendon or chipped bone but possibly a deep seated bruise on a joint but if she gets worse to bring her into the hospital where they can investigate in more depth. She is almost 100% but the lat wee bit is annoying. Anyone had a similar experience.

Well, ther'es that old adage about 95% of lamenesses being in the foot - did he hoof test her? How is she at trotting a circle on concrete in either direction?

While I don't want to freak you out - my horse's similar mystery lameness has turned out to be related to navicular and mild arthritis in the coffin joint - required nerve blocks and x rays to diagnose. My horse is almost sound trotting in straight lines on concrete but about 3 or 4/10 lame on a circle in either direction.

However, if your horse is nearly sound there's not much you can really do if she's not lame enough to do much more diagnosis on!! How long has she been lame for?

Was alme for around 3 weeks then sound for two weeks lame again for two weeks now almost sound. The annoying thing was that during the vets visit she started of lame but it took a while to decide which leg, during the many trot ups and flex tests she got sounder so was lunged both ways and by this time she was going well and the lameness was intermittent and almost undetectable. She seems to be charging about in the field now detect a slight nod for a couple of strides then ok. Very annoying.
