Interesting start to the day to find my two year old on the wrong side on this gate this morning. First thought he had tried to jump it and misjudged rather badly to get to the longer and taster grass on the other side but there was not a mark on him. Or do folks think he would have managed this amount of destruction bum scratching and falling through when the gate gave way?

Anyway, new gate will be required and he has also managed to snap one of the straining posts at ground level. I am impressed with this level of destruction without any injury. There is not a mark on the two year old thankfully.

I really can't figure out what he did to cause this?

Blimey, your lucky there's no vet bills. Must admit i'm impressed too :) I cant imagine a bit of bum rubbing would do that tho. Maybe he decided to give it a good kicking??

My word!!! :eek::eek:

Someone/something has given that gate a good bashing! Seems like you expect some sort of evidence on your younster... even if he clambered through it to get to the otherside...

Agree with the above poster....very lucky!!

I had a gate like that due to youngster suffering brake failure and attempting to jump too late. He hit it with his chest and fell over the gate leaving no marks on him and only the gate and a flattened bit of ground where he landed on his side. We would have been mystified if we had not watched him do it.

You will be surprised to hear that this sort of damage is not unusual with my young Highlands! Three in the last few months that I can think of.

I've come to the conclusion that they are not very good at judging heights! Never any damage to the pony, only the gate. I now make them stronger in the hope that they'll just bounce off! I am getting pretty good at repairing them, too.

JFTD's Darach, at around five months, tried to jump a standard steel gate and got his hind leg caught between the top two rails and partially hung there until released. He was not even limping next day and it doesn't seem to have put him off jumping!

Ditto/////slight error of judgement I think lol!

Glad no harm done. Friends yougnster did the same a few years back, straight through the wood almost identical and not a mark to him!

Horses. They astound me.

Yikes! Looks familiar, though. Bug (my youngster) used to smash her way through post and rails with a not dissimilar outcome for the fence. Walk through it, run through it, the fence always came off worse. I think she only scraped herself one time, when she appeared to have used her skull as a battering ram!

Must admit when saw the state of the gate from the kitchen window this morning I was expecting to find him very lame with some serious cuts and abrasions - very lucky!

The gate was going uphill so doubt break failure but maybe he just misjudged it and hit it with his chest. If it had been the one at the bottom end then def brake failure!

Remind me never to get a young Highland if they do this regularly ;) At least wood does give way rather than steel gates.

This youngster has always impressed me being rather sensible lad but I will say he is very athletic from some of his antics round the field!

Our farmer neighbour bought a brand shiny new five bar gate...a couple of days later his Friesian bull reversed onto it!

Seen a few V shaped metal gates round farmers fields round here too!

I really hope this youngster doesn't make a habit of it!

Def beginning to look like he tried to jump it from your comments. Some friends were trying to convince me it was a bum rub!
