Before I start, I am a born worrier!
I bought some Magic last weekend after it was recommended on here to try to take the edge off my box resting horse and Im amazed if not a bit worried!!!
The tub says feed 25g, 1 scoop daily but the scoops 50g so it could be misleading if you didnt realise the scoop holds 50g.
I started Sunday and today he looked very heavy eyed and very calm. I never thought something you could buy over the counter would have such an effect. Anyway tonight I'd already mixed his feed with it in and he was eating it when I thought perhaps I shouldnt have given it him.
Do you think he will be ok, Ive read that these calmers lower the blood pressure and Im bothered now it might make him ill.

I think he'll be fine. If you've been giving him that amount since Sunday and he isnt ill yet, he'll be okay. Just make sure you only feed the recommended amount from now on.
I can't see there'd be anything that would make him ill.

Sorry I must sound confusing, I did feed the normal amount 25g. It was the scoop that held 50g, I fed half a scoop although the instructions said feed one scoop which would have meant double the reccomended dose.
Thanks for replying

I never realised that the scoops were the wrong size - that's a bit misleading isn't it. No wonder I thought it worked so well

Me too! I've been feeding my young Arab NAF Magic for about 6 months using a full scoop (thinking it was 25g) - and I don't think it's made much difference ...

Don't worry, Magic's the magnesium isn't it? You'd have to feed over 60 or so grams to overdose. I feed my lot 60g of CalMag, only 50% magnesium though, recomended by Farrier, and at this 30g mg dose have seen no ill effects at all.
Good luck with your boy and I hope he gets better soon from whatever he's box resting for

Yes I noticed the scoops were a bit large, so I've been using a Horlicks scoop which is about half the size.

Interesting though what you say Evil Cookie about CalMag as i found a friend on the yard has a stonking great sack of it that he got from our local feed merchant, and Calcined Magnesite is the active ingredient of NAF Magic. NAF Magic though costs £30 a tub, and a sack of CalMag which would last a year costs small change.

I wondered how the dosage compares between the two, and if CalMag has a shelf life once opened.

Ooooops, sorry. I emailed Naf because I was concerned and mentioned the scoop size and they said a full scoop is 50ml NOT g and that one scoop equals 25g so it is a full scoop you feed.
Sorry sorry sorry
