Hi all. Opinions please . . . has anyone had any experience of feed the NAF Optimum balancer to the older horse? At the moment i'm not getting the results that I was expecting from what he's being fed now and just thought i'd give it a try. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry I have no idea but I am thinking of using it for my 3 year old so I want to find out what people say about it :)

It's hard to give you an answer to your question when you haven't said why you want to feed the product, weight gain? coat condition? weight loss? weight maintenance? allergies?

Like a lot of horses, he doesn't get fed the "recommended" daily amount so I'm looking for an all round balancer but something that will help to maintain his muscle tone and topline. I work 6 days a week so during the winter he'll be on restricted exercise but will be out by day and in by night.

Honestly read the ingredients and the vit:min amount, in my mind it is extremely poor and not worth the money. I would not feed it and the price ..... Well

Go and compair that to a balancer like equimins advance complete, fab product with v v good levels of vits, mins . Very high spec and well worth every penny without cheap fillers

I was advised by my instructor that my lad would probably benefit from a balancer in his feed as i struggle with weight and keeping condition and its been brilliant stuff

There is a lot of anti NAF posts on here but personally I have found the products excellent. I use the Haylage Balancer & the Profeet currently but I have also used the Respirator and have never had any complaints.

Haylage Balancer made my mare's feet sore, she is only shod in front. She was hopping along the stony track as if on hot coals. Sister's horse, who is shod all round wasn't much better. I had bought a tub of HB, as they had been on PP but shop had none over Christmas. We then realised that PP, which has pretty much the same ingredients, was the reason for some odd, rushing behaviour over the past few months.

I never had a problem with NAF until I wised up and looked into the ingredients instead of just reading the front of the tubs. I find all their products full of so many fillers and crap plus low spec its a rip off. Far better companies out there for better money.

Ahh recently been researching the whole 'which balancer' question myself. Went for Simple Systems Total Eclipse for my good doer TB and I have to say I'm very pleased with the results. He looks fab, very shiny and he loves it - licks the bowl clean and it has meant I don't need the supplements I was giving him as its got them in it anyway so making feeds up is much quicker. I've just started him on their unmollassed Timothy chaff too and again he loves it. Also found a feed shop that sells it who deliver free of charge which was an unexpected bonus. Definately have a close look at the ingredients rather than going by their marketing blurbs whichever balancer you go for.

Why look at these v commercialised brands? Id be feeding pro hoof and linseed, mature oats and alfalfa along with salt, maybe turmeric for joints as well.
