As some of you know, I bought my 3yr old early this year, looking a bit ropey. She had raced as a 2yr old, and was very scrawny! I have had her turned out with my old lad, and she has been steadily improving. She has been fed D&H build up, alfa a and sugar beet, with 2-3 scoops/day of pink powder, since day1.

Last weekend I ran out of Pink Powder, and because of work commitments I haven't had a chance to get to an open tack shop to buy any more, so she's been without it for 6 days now.

Yesterday and today i've noticed she's a lot more 'skitty' when coming in for her feed, and actually bucking and kicking out at my lad, which is out of character for her.

Could this just be her feeling her feet a bit much as a normal youngster? Or actually be related to the lack of Pink Powder in her diet? It all seems a little coincidental not to be related - though I could be imagining this!

I would think it is quite likely to be connected. I started feeding PP to my TB about 18 months ago on recommendation from a nutritionist, we had some pigs at the yard for about a month and he completely lost the plot (I know the pigs were the problem). As there was nothing I could do to remove the pigs I had to address trying to settle Che. The PP def helped settle his tummy, he had hideous runny poo caused by the stress, and helped him feel a bit better in himself. I have carried on with the PP as he can be a bit stressy when something upsets him and I def notice a difference in him if I ever run out or I lower the dose in an effort to cut it out completely.

We had the opposite experience. When we ran out of PP, I bought some Haylage Balancer, (which has pretty much the same ingredients) instead and the horses became very skittish and the one with no back shoes was hopping from foot to foot on the pebbly track which she is used to going along. This made us realise that in fact, ever since we had started using PP, their behaviour had deteriorated. We immediately took them off all NAF products and won't be using them again.

Im afraid I disagree. I have 3 horses in the UK, all totally different, age, breed, temperament and one in Africa.. They are all on pink powder. 2 over here are odlies and have had problems keeping weight on, since being on the pink powder, they look in the picture of health. The one in Africa was the proving point fro me. Suddenly taken very ill a few weeks ago, had vet out, wormed him, gave him several shots of anti biotics, and other goodies, but the weight was dropping off him and he was feeling very sorry for himself.

I had already taken a tub of pink powder out there for him as cant get any supplements over there, after a week the difference was staggering, by 2 weeks you would not have known he had been ill. He is now back to jumping again and ready to take on the world.
I swear by the stuff, after all its been around for years, Im sure it would be out of production by now if it didnt work. Horsey additives come and go but that one has stood the test of time.

Thank you guys! I don't feel like i'm going crazy now ;)

Will get straight to the tack shop tomorrow to get some more!

Incidentally, i've been thinking that my old lad is looking better than he ever did as a youngster, perhaps that's got more to do with the pink powder than i realised... (he was has been on it all year too)
