I am sure all of you are very careful about nail heads protruding anywhere a horse can get near it, but I would just like to remind you to do regular checks and remove any IMMEDIATELY.
Some time ago I asked OH to remove one that was sticking out in the donkeys field shelter. I would have done it myself if I could ever find a hammer to pull it out or knock it in with.
Well, yesterday we got to the field to find Elly had a round hole in her forehead. I worried it might be an airgun pellet, but on looking, I found this nail with a tuft of Elly's hair on it. Luckily it was not as bad as it could have been and it should heal OK. Needless to say the nail is now gone.
Here are some pictures I took today, after treating it yesterday and before treating it today. And yes, I feel very guilty.
