:(How can i change the name of my horse on her passport?

My husband phoned Welsh Pny Society for change of ownership and we wanted to change her name. We took a week to find the right name for her and when he phoned them up they told him we cant change her birth name. Lots of people change their horses names so how do i do it. HELP HELP HELP:(

I have never heard of anybody changing the name on their horses passport/registered name... Surely that could make horses untraceable?

I may be wrong...

A lot of people change their horses names on non-breed passports, memberships to affiliated societies (BD, BE, BS etc). But I've never heard of people doing this with one of the registered breed societies. I don't think you'll be able to change her registered name, as it is important for tracing her parentage should her papers go missing, for DNA testing any foals she may have etc. I'm not positive, but I've never heard of anyone doing a name change with a registered m&m.

Just to add, this doesn't mean you can't use a different name for a stable name or even a different show name in unaffiliated competitions. It'd only affect you if you plan to compete affiliated, so it may be extra cost that isn't necessary depending on what you plan on doing with her.

:if that the case then her name must stay that way.
Surely i can still call her by the name we have given her and how would you enter her in comps? Would it be by her passport name or the name we gave her:( This is so confusing:rolleyes:

My old boy was called Merrie Mailman, we called him Winks, but on a comp entry form under horses name you'd write Merrie Mailman.

My new horse is called Narramore Lucia, I call her Lucy, but I could have called her whatever I like for day to day use.

surely they have a different stud prefix?

You can't have 2 horses registered with the same society with exactly the same name....

I believe you can 'change' the name on passports but, rather than remove the original name, they put the new name in brackets alongside.

You can call her whatever you want. For example, say you had a registered Welsh D called Cinore Daffy Duck. You can call him Michael on the yard, or any name you want.

At unaffiliated shows, so riding club level eventing, dressage and showjumping you could enter this Welsh D simply as Michael, or Magic Michael, or any name you want.

For local showing classes you could also enter him as Michael, except in classes that specify registered m&m's in which case you should enter him under his registered welshie name, Cinore Daffy Duck.

For affiliated dressage, eventing, showjumping and showing where you have to be registered with a society such as British Dressage or British Eventing before entering, you have to enter the horse under the name you have registered with that particular society. As far as I'm aware, those societies ask for the registered name to match the one on the passport. You would need to compete in these competitions under Cinore Daffy Duck.

Hopefully that has made it clearer.

I thoguht that too, but really have no idea when it comes to breed societies. As said, the prefix is important.

Do you mean that the pony is a Reg Welsh but it had the wrong name on its passport and was called "bob" you have now found through its breeding that its real (from breeder that didnt register?) name is "Windyridge Bobbin"or something and you want to change it to its proper name or do you want to change from "windyridge bobbin" to "Fred"? If so I have no idea especially with a WPCS passport the ponies name is the ponies name and it should be its reg name on it so you can trace its breeding etc.

If it has for example a HPA/non-breed society passport you can change its name, I have a pony whose passport said "2006" for its name! I changed it and now on the passport it says "Windyridge Branston Small Chunk (2006)" The old name in brackets so it can still be traced.
