I agree on the Irish names if the horse is Irish. My gelding was Irish and his stable name William, I had Sweet William translated into Irish. Maybe you could do something similar but bear in mind that possibly the announcer may not be able to pronunce it!

I'd be careful of choosing a name that is difficult to spell, or is pronounced very differently to the way it's spelled. I've heard some hilarious gaffs at shows.

Difficult without seeing the horse. My mare was called Nutmeg when i bought her which i thought was a bit too pony-ish for a 16.2 TB stroppy mare so she was renamed Ellie!

I would have called her Squirrel or Kanga looking back. Other than that difficult to suggest. Try looking in baby name books as often lots of the ethnic names are good for horses as they are unusual.

I think names come to you when you get to know the horse some of mine have three names:eek: the name they came with which we ignore unless it suits, the name we called them when we got them and the name that suits them.

Thats why i always wait now saves cahanging them as you always have a name that springs to mind and once it has you alaways call and think of the horse as that name.
I think their personality has alot to do with a name that suits them.

Wait a while and a lovely name will come to you that suits the horse you cant force a name and all of a sudden it will just be so obvious and suit the horse so well.

We had a bay mare on my yard as a kid called... Blue, at first I thought what a funny name but now I really like it. She was a gorgeous looking horse as well.
