Sorry bad description!

Trying to find out the name of an antibiotic my friend's horse is on, vet prescribed it obviously but poured some into a plain plastic bottle so no label. It's liquid and looks exactly like human urine. Apparently, it's a strong antibiotic.

Could be oxytetracycline - but pretty much impossible to guess!

That is illegal to provide a prescription medication without a label, which should show quantity, strength and name of drugs, how to use it and prescriber details. Naughty vet!

Can your friend not just phone the vets and ask? It should be on the records from when it was prescribed. There are many that match your description. Engemycin is the one I've seen most often.

Ditto. Totally unacceptable. I would insist that the practice dispenses the medication with the correct label on containing all the details given above. I am astounded that the vet would be so lax.

I *think* Terramycin and Engemycin are just different branded names for oxytetracycline :)
oxytetracycline is definately urine coloured, although as to how much you're meant to give a horse I have no idea... Vet should have lebelled that, as zoon said. (It is still legal if it just says 'use as directed' though!)

Vet poured it into a smaller plain water bottle to give friend the right amount apparently which is 35ml for ten days.

Will tell her to phone again and ask

Karidox (doxycycline) is a light brownish colour and is for by mouth only for horses. (injection form of doxycycline is fatal to horses if jabbed apparently!) Soludox (which is also doxycyline) is a yellow powder mixed with water, both of these are actually for chickens and pigs!

Karidox is yellow too - it just looks brown in the bottle!
