So my soon-to-be new-ish horse is unnamed in his passport, and it’d be nice to give him a proper registered name. But he doesn’t have any recorded breeding, so I’m a bit stumped about where to start.

Where would you start? Stable name? Personality? History?
(I know pics should be compulsory but as he’s not fully mine yet, I don’t want to post too much about him online yet!)

Thank you! Love the song title idea. He’s called Paddy (and he’s an Irish pony), and I’ve known him since earlier this year so hopefully will know ‘the one’ when I stumble across it.

Look at his colourings/markings and see if some thing about them can combine with Paddy: Flash Paddy, Red Paddy, Paddy's Blaze ........ etc.

The HHO collective named my BOGOF foal. As he's an Andalusian, it was something Spanish. My (unregistered) Highland came with a name I could not live with, so I tried on the names of various mountains, lochs, and places around Scotland for a few days until I settled on one I liked.

Oooh some great suggestions, thanks. He’s definitely staying as Paddy, it’s him through and through (plus my ex was called Patrick and it might be a bit odd…)

He has four excellent white stockings so I was thinking of something around them… but will do some digging into Irish history and geography and see if anything suits.
