we have decided to keep him! im so pleased!!

so now what...??

introducing him to the horse!
teaching to walk on lead
getting him to come back when called
getting him insured
and neutered

where to start!!

Oh, delighted for you, especially after what you went through a few months ago, he was meant to find you :)

I would work on focus and recall right now, all good stuff comes from you, food, praise walks, and he only gets them when he is paying attention and listening - and everything else after that will be so much easier.

And yes, book him in to get those nads off!

thanks!

i havent got a clue where to start with walking on the lead, iv taken treats out to try and get his attention but hes so not interested!!

on the way home hes a dream to lead!

So pleased for you and him! Lots of updates needed. Does he pull on the lead or just have no idea, if its pulling although I am not a fan of haltis I can recommend gencon headcollars. Similar idea to halti but the control comes from the neck rather than the nose, if you see what I mean. Long line and lots of tasty treats or toys for teaching the recall, and patience.:)

Make sure he is hungry before you mean to teach him something, if he is full he won't work for food, use something like cheese, chicken, chorizo, not his normal food or 'bought' treats.
Try toys too, a little rag or flannel or a squeaky ball, see if that does anything for him.
If he is not toy driven, make a huge deal of the toy, get him interested in it, hide it behind your back, put it in a drawer - what was THAT? - it's gone! Oh no! And see if that makes him interested.

Keep at it, he won't realise you are his 'person' yet if he has already been through so many homes.

Read your previous thread and soo pleased you have decided to keep him :o)

Poor lad has been through what three/four homes in the first 12mths of his life - makes my blood boil!!

Obviously fate has taken a hand in this and he has certainly landed on his feet with you :o)

Beautiful dog, hope you have loads of fun together - I would not have been able to turn him away either.

yes he does pull, and hes rather strong!
i have got a haltis, but he wouldnt let me get it on him the other day so that might take some practise!

with the recall he does come when hes called. but if u want to put the lead on and he has a stick, he thinks its a game and runs away! he hasnt got to grips with serious voice yet!

CC good idea about taking him out hungry, will try that!!

LOL nads will be coming off pronto! lol hopfully he will chill out afterwards!

im so pleased to have him, ill take some pics when we are over the park.

thanks all for your help and support!
