HELP.
I have the most ideal horse ever - will do absolutely anything except hack alone.
Any clues? Ive tried everything, teeth, back, tack, different jockeys, waiting, beating, spurs, whips etc etc.
She is brilliant in company,or with someone walking/biking but just will not go alone. She just stops or spins or sits down.
All this being said - I moved yards and had 6 months problem free and then she started again.
Weirdly - she will x/c alone or sj.
Does anyone have any clues - im willing to try anything.

Poor you but know how you feel. She is obviously feeling insecure for some reason. Go with it even if it takes you an hour. Keep re-assuring her and patting and telling her what a good girl she is and she will go forward. Be patient, hard I know but I DO understand. Don't make an issue of it, it will come right. Good luck. xx

Hate to say but maybe you need to just accept that she doesn't hack alone? I know a horse that's great in every way, SJs and XCs alone etc, but will not hack alone and is terrified of traffic. She can only be hacked out in company and owners have just accepted it; they just make sure they arrange to hack out with someone.

Unless I've read the OP wrong, she's never hacked alone?

Have you tried long reining her absolutely everywhere from the stables, round the car park, etc; once they realise you mean business while you're in the school it is usually a simple matter to get her to stride out around the block? Always wear gloves and a hat too but don't let her get away with it, make her go forward wherever you want her to go. Once you've cracked it keep giving her refresher days too every now and then.

have you tried having someone walking with you and then leaving you for short periods and coming back to you once you've gone around the corner? We did this with my mare to wean her off having someone walk out with her
