Not sure if i can put a post up like this but here goes anyway !! Im desperate for a narrow fit saddle for my new tb.. I dont want to spend an awfull lot but would like leather and not synthetic. He is very narow but im hoping he will fill out a bit so its just to get me through the next 6 mths or so. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a good site. (ebay is limited to just a few )

I can recommend a bates saddle with the changeable gullet. Thats what i've got for my TB. :)

Have you tried Saddles Direct? And just keep checking ebay.

Speak to your local shops. Most TBS arent as narrow as people think, they just have high withers that need to be cleared and many have hollows behind the shoulders. Even if he is narrow it is likely he will need a specific deeper panel with deeper rear gussets, not just a narrow version of any saddle. Many have hollows because they have had too narrow trees, so people fit narrower and it makes it worse! Buying unseen is asking for trouble, even for a week, let alone 6 months. It doesnt matter whether its leather or synthetic its the fit that matters and the only way to tell that is to ride in it.

Another word of warning- if the panel isnt correct on a changeable gullet saddle you often have to fit too narrow in order to clear the withers. When the correct width gullet is in place the saddle will often be too close or touching the wither.

Have a look at the kent and masters saddles. They are £675ish new, english leather, changeable width and the tree and panel are specifically designed for TBS. If fitted correctly it should last you alot longer than 6 months!

Just to add, another problem with buying off the internet is a narrow saddle in one make could be totally different to a narrow in another make. A saddle needs to fit and the only way to tell that is to try it before you buy it!

I've got a narrow working hunter saddle I'm looking to sell - tbh I think I'll struggle as genuinely narrow horses like her are few and far between these days. PM me if you are interested.

I have a black 17.5 english leather narrow saddle for sale. PM me if you want to try it out etc.

I've got a saddle which I used to use on a very high withered 15hh but it doesn't fit any of my nicely rounded youngsters - think it might only be a 16.5" though. PM me if you're based in the south east and interested trying it.

I agree. My own TB had a wide saddle when she was ridden (it fitted her beautifully) and she has tall, narrow withers.

Where abouts in the country are you? If you're within reasonable distance I have one you could try for fit. It's old, but has been well looked after. It's an Olney GP. Brown leather with suede knee rolls. 17.5" It's very narrow.
