Got to yard tonight to ride - my horse seemed fine - tacked up and rode down the lane - did not get far as horse flies to bad so turned for home- trotted back, dismounted and was horrified to see think yellow discharge dripping from his right nostril only. It was quite heavy - untacked and cleaned him up- looked better - then fed him and it was just as bad again. He usually lives out but am borrowing a stable to keep him off grass as worried about laminitis. I must admit it is a little dusty but as not my stable I can;t really strip it all down. Although I will give it a damn good cleannow. Normally soak his hay but didnt today as friend got him in. Also had a change of hay recently. He did a couple of coughs when I first got on him (this is unusual). He also is a head shaker - do you think it could be pollen related. Or the fact he is in all day and with the new hay maybe not suiting him and the exercise helped clear his nasal passages - will keepy my eye on him. Probably a combination of everything!!!!

My horse had a discharge from her right nostril a year ago, got the vet out. He said he suspected a blocked Sinus but I was also thinking it was down to dust as she was stabled in a barn with very little air circulation. She was given a weeks worth of antibiotics which did improve it but didn't completely clear it so she had another two weeks worth.
During this time I was looking at alternative products and read up on Echinacea so once the antibiotics had finished I started her on Echinacea which along with moving her to an out door stable changing her bed to shredded paper and soaking her hay she seems to be alright she lives out most of the time during the summer and a part from the discharge she was still her happy self charging around the field like an idiot.
