Noticed yesterday (after I had ridden for half an hour, how guilty do I feel) that Sam had a cut on his off hock. Only about 3cm long but on closer inspection- really deep- could get my finger right in it
still quite fresh so fairly recent.
Anyway, rang vet who came straight away and gave him a shot of painkillers (by now quite puffy round the hock although Sam wasn't lame trotted up), antibiotics and decided it was too awkward a place to stitch so decided to put that blue gel right up inside instead. Advised to leave him turned out.
As predicted by vet this morning it looks MUCH worse. cut looks good- clean and healthy but boy had it swollen up overnight. Gave him his antibiotic injection and re cleaned and treated the wound. Bought some msm to give him as really rate it for injuries etc.
This evening it was even more swollen!!!!
Poor lad is quite lame now. Cold hosed for full 15 minutes and then re cleaned and put more stuff right in it.
His hock has no definition at all this evening, in fact it is convex- vet predicted it would go this way and he is on IM abs so not too worried but did want to ask whether anyone had any other suggestions of things I could be doing to help it???
He's been a star of a patient bless him.
