Bit of advice needed

Went up horse and found me horse in field with 1 swollen upper and lower eyelid! Flys were all around him, and he didnt have his fly fringe on today (feeling guilty

) Didnt want to bring him in as think he would have scratched his eye out but really like some advice of how to treat it as I didnt really want to mess around with it tonight, do you think I should stick some human antihistimes in feed if so how many??? Wash with cold/warm water with anything in???? Call vet out if it doesnt go down????

Quite stuck tonight and would love some help

pop to your local chemists and buy some brolene eye drops. They work wonders and help stop the itching. We have a gelding at the yard who suffers really badly from the flies so he goes out during the day but is in first thing and last thing when the flies are usually at their worst.

You can wash the eye out with saline solution (salt dissolved in water) carefully, then pop his fly mask on tomorrow.
If he can't open his eye or the discharge is thick and green, then you might be better getting the vet as eyes are easy to damage and hard to replace.
I hope he's better after a night's sleep
