On monday my mare had a nasty fall whilst being ridden, no idea what caused it vet guessed she must have tripped on something. Not sure how ive come away without anything broken as she landed on me. Must be very very lucky as didnt want to explain why i couldnt go into work after only being there a week.

So vet comes out 20 mins after spoke to them and says just lame on back end worse on left hing leg. Muscle's very sore and tense on her hips when he touched them she tried to bite him. She doesnt like vets at the best of time so normal for her to try to bite. So he said give her x2 danilon a day for 3 days. Carry on and ride her like normal however just in walk and trot for hour a day. She needs to be in work as already has past issues with 3 of her legs so think thats why he said carry on just not go as far as she normally does which is 3hrs a hack.

So now she is lame on all 4, danilon seems to help however not ideal as she has past liver issues as well. She is happy hacking out and playing in the field like normal. Just still lame so vet back out friday if no change. Vet suggested it could be lami? She had steriods last year so more at risk, there is no pulse. Today hoofs were warm but nothing really. She was borderline lami a few months ago, just thinking she cant be this unlucky all the time. And wondering if this is the reason she fell as she has great balance and if she ever does trip in a field gets herself back up quickly.

I'd be wanting either a different vet or a second opinion if he or she doesn't know whether it is laminitis or not. I'm also quite surprised that the vet wants the horse to keep being ridden without knowing what the cause of the lameness in the fourth leg is. Sorry for the negative post but I think there are lots of unanswered questions which need bottoming out by the vet as your horse is clearly uncomfortable.

Glad you weren't hurt by the fall, that sounds nasty.

Thanks, he didnt think lami when he was out he suggested it day after. He just said she is better moving around being ridden to loosen up as not as lame in trot more in walk. Did suggest leaving her in stable however he said leave out. Guess will see when he comes out next?
