my pony is still going thru the settling in period. after 5 days with no more injuries i thought that was that. but when i went down this morning he has a big chunk of hair missing off the side of his neck and the area is slightly swollen. it doesnt look like a bite, so i think he might have caught himself on a gate of fence. its too high up to be the electric fencing. i bathed it and put on some purple spray. he doesnt mind me touching it, so it cant be overly painful. am i just being a worry bucket or should a vet see it?

It does Sound like another horse has taken a bite or possibly has been rubbing his neck on a fence, does he have sweet itch? poor pony though- if its just a graze or superifical wound, ie isn't deep or overly large in size/or puncture then I'd just keep it clean, clean it with hibiscrub or warm salty water, then let it dry and apply an antiseptic cut cream like dermagel.

If obviously it gets a lot worse, or more swollen or he has limited movement etc then speak to the vet for advice!
