We have just moved yard and our two geldings are now stabled side by side to each other which they weren't before they moved. The thing is the big black horse (who can have a foul temper at the best of times) is aiming to take the side of the other horses head off by biting, ears back and trying to kick throught the wall. the horse who is being bitten now has a couple of small bites on the side of his head and i want to stop the other horse before things start to get worse. What should i do? raise my voice at the horse when he does it or invest in one of these grill thing (which im not keen on doing on our new Loddon doors)
Any ideas please greatly appreciated (and sorry if this sounds really stupid)

I do not really understand your post. Do they have half a wall between them or something? In which case I would advise putting a grill up though saying that if he is kicking out i'd be wary of getting his leg caught by the bars??

We have this problem when horses switch stables where I am as they can reach each other.

9 times out of 10 they will bicker for up to a week, and then settle.

Really good idea. I have to shut the anti weave grill on Amy's stable to stop the same thing happening with her and her neighbour.

They won't stop - so you need to prevent the problem occuring.

switch stables or put up a grill really.

before who ever owns the black gelding ends up paying out for the other horses hefty vets bills. I have had a few unsociable horses over the years (I rather like them for some weird reason) and I always get on fine at livery as I do everything necessary to ensure other horse and people are not inconvenienced by them and are safe.

I have heard of people hanging tyres in stables so when the horse kicks the sides, the tyre swings and gives a wallop. Not something I would recommend though.

Good luck, I hope things settle down for you

I am assuming that you mean when they both have their heads over the door one is biting the others face?

I which case what I have done in the past is use one of those head partitions that you use in trailers - put it up half way between the two horses then they can't touch each other but neither horse ends up behind weave bars
