Nasty tasting but safe deterrent

Any ideas please what I can put at the top of my horse's tail where his field mate has rubbed it raw from rough grooming?

I've tried Sudocrem but that seemingly tastes ok. Obviously it's got to be something that won't sting the sore area.

I really don't want to have to rug just for this reason.

I use Effol chew stop, which seems to stop my youngster chewing my other horse's tail.

I use yum yum spray on everything, says it can be used on bullied horses too, so that should do the trick

I don't think I would put Jeyes fluid on raw skin, would really sting.
