Spent quite a long time last year trying to find a bit to suit my Arab. He is very fussy and spent a lot of time shaking his head and snatching the bit. I tried mylers and other very expensive bits, hoping for a miracle but none of them seemed to make a difference.

In the end I realised a lot of his discomfort was a stiff neck and have tried to get him to relax and stretch out. This has sorted out a lot of his head shaking but still didn't think he was entirely happy.

I bought a Nathe straight bar snaffle and tried him in it today and he really did look surprised when it went into his mouth, and he was so obviously at peace with the bit. I could take up contact with no protest, there was no snatching.

I am so glad I stopped trying to find miracles from a bit and just concentrated on getting him working better and then found a bit that suited him.

It must be amazing for the horse when finally they find they have something comfortable in their mouths.
