Hi

My instructor has suggested a Nathe snaffle bit for my horse as she is very sensitive in the mouth and not very accepting to a contact, just wondered whether anyone had any experiance of them? And if anyone knnows of a website I can hire from to try or buy cheaply or if anyone has one they don't need that i could buy from.

Thanks

Yep I really like them. My horse has the loose ring for DR and a cartwheel gag for XC. He is alot softer in them that any other bit

Fantastic little bits, they are quite expensive though.

The cheapest and simplest tends to be a straight bar loose ring nathe.

They do need reugalr checks to make sure the rubber coating is still good and not chewed through. All though my mare wore hers for 5 years and never got through it.

Also quite a good bit to use for a while as an alternative to a snaffle etc.

Handy thing to have in your kit really.

Not sure there's anywhere that hires them though.

The bit bank sell them but can't see that they hire them. Think you could find one cheeper elsewhere to, mine came from Townsfield saddlers donkies years ago.

My last horse was very difficult to bridle and was always opening his mouth and fussing when ridden as he hadn't forgotton the pain from the ulcer and cuts he had developed with his previous owner

I bought a nathe bit and he was a lot happier. I did try the Happy Mouth first but that was too thick for his mouth and he hated it.

My horse loves her Nathe french link and goes really well in it. I bought it from Derby House and she has used it for over two years now without damaging it.

One important thing to note is that these bits tend only to be suitable for horses with very moist mouths as they could rub/burn a dry mouth.

For the right mouth, I can't recommend it highly enough.

i have a nathe french link and really like it - little bugger chews through it regularly though so I do have to keep buying new ones! it's helped him to start taking a contact down and out so I should be able to put him and a normal snaffle soon enough.

ok, i'll try those sites, i've a feeling she is going to be one of those that chews through and its quite a bit just for her to chew through. By the sounds of it, it should suit her though! I'll keep hunting for a bargin!

Thanks
