I recently met these people on a trade stand at work. It is a free service and you can register any items you own that have an identification mark on them. So if you were unlucky enough to get burglarised the Police would be able to trace the items back to you and return them.

I asked them if I could put my saddle on the database and they said yes as long as it had a identifying mark. Mine is micro chipped and stamped.

Seemed like a good idea and they currently have 24 million members

Well spotted dieseldog. Immobilise was created for the police with Home Office funding. It's THE ONLY DATABASE that the police can access 24/7 from their patrol cars and, I believe, from their hand-held PDU's. Registration is FREE and if, for example, your saddle was registered on it and subsequently stolen, all you do is report the theft to the police as normal and then go into your Immobilise account, find the saddle on your property list and highlight it as stolen. The information on your saddle will be immediately available to all police forces in the UK.

There is a general database and there are also sponsored lists that deal with certain products including one for saddles and tack.

Why pay for database registration when it's free and directly accessible to the police.

There is also a related site called CheckMend where you can check to see if a product has been reported stolen and save yourself the hassle of possibly buying a stolen saddle or whatever. The link is www.checkmend.com
