I went in 2001. It was good and they brought out a few big names and told us how much they are worth (jaw droppingly expensive!!) and showed us facilities.

Was smart but unfortunately I went with College and we had been to Kildangon (one of the Sheiks (Sp!?) studs) first which was out of this world and incredibly smart and well organised/planned out so National Stud was a bit poor after that!!

OH would like it if likes racing but otherwise probably not!

I live not far from there and have never been! its probably not the best time to visit. they have already started foaling and the new intake of students will be starting soon. if they are closed to the public, you probably wont get the tour and entrance into the gardens etc. not sure if they will have any of the foals out yet cos of the weather.

its a long way to go, for a look around the yard especially if you are based for a few days in dublin and are relying on public transport. I think well worth a visit in spring and summer autumn.

Just an oppinion, could be totally wrong

I have been a couple of times. First time I went it was April and was great because there were loads of new foals and one had been born that day!! Next time I went was August last year and not quite as good cos all the foaling was over. They had a museum bit with Arkle's skeleton. Also had nice gardens, but what they would be like just now i dont know.Easy to get to from Dublin though..about half an hour on the train.

Yes a friend did that last year when she went to Ireland for a weeks hunting. They were more than happy to show her and another friend aroudn.

I went in 2005 it was good but nowhere near as good as Sheik Mohammeds (sp?) stud, now that was the best thing we visited, it was amazing!!!

Lol, just read your post, yep thats exactly what we all found. The National Stud was a real let down after going to the Sheiks stud!!!

it's about ten minutes from my house - but I haven't been in years and years! Either way hope you have a good trip to Ireland - I'd offer to show you around only I'm actually in New York visiting my sister at the moment

Me and H's Dad went whilst honeymooning in Ireland - it's a beautiful place - very serene and peaceful - the stables are to die for - I'm sure you'll have a great time!
