Thanks for that - We're now sponsoring Gemma Paternoster - so it's great to be able to keep up with the action!
Good to see that Ryan Prater's up near the top yesterday

Good for you! I remember that Gemma looked a good prospect when I watched the Junior European Championships in 2002. Nice to see someone able to combine studies with successful competing.

didn't realise sorry. Always look at who's sponsoring the BSJA and BE as like to give my business to people who are putting into the sport. Just had another look and you're not on their website as a sponsor. You should speak to them on Monday and make sure they acknowledge you.

Dont know who Mike is - but yes you should. I always tend to buy from people that are sponsoring the sport. I just think its nice to see companies putting something back in.

I buy from Derby House over Robinsons every time even if they have the same items purely because Derby House support Eventing and Show Jumping.

I often go on the sites. I event myself now, but used to showjump so visit both. That said - the BSJA seem better at promoting their sponsors on the website.

That's really good to hear that people do support those that support the riders!

We've just sponsored BE at Gleneagles this week too - that's something that we want to do more of - Everything that can be put back into the industry will be - we also believe that young riders should be assisted with sponsorship as much as possible as they put a hell of a lot into the sport and it's not easy for them at times!

I don't like a jump-off in NCs and the use of just 1 rider from each team is a rather arbitrary decider. It's somewhat unfair as in this case when the same horses are jumping in the GP (a 2 rounder with jump-off if necessary). I prefer the old way of taking the time of the rounds which are counted. This time GB would have won - unusual as they are often among the slowest!

Congratulations to James Davenport and For Fun who won the Chantilly GP today, Tracy Newman and Alcina who won a 1.40 in Leizerias, and Graham Lovegrove and Dirak du Donjon who won a 1.50 in Pinerolo.

Yes indeed. According to my currency converter = £35,942.58. Not a bad reward for one clear and one 5 fault round! I like the fact that the class carries prize money for all those who complete the first round - even more generous than Valkesnwaard where the prizes go down to 18th place.

It makes the prize money in this country look paltry by comparison doesn't it

I think the Hickstead Derby is our biggest prize, and that's about £25k to the winner isn't it

For quite a while the Calgary GP was the most valuable prize in international SJ and for a few years there was a very valuable award (like the Rolex Eventing treble) sponsored by Alfonso Romo's company Pulsar, for any rider who got the "triple crown" of Valkenswaard, Calgary and Monterrey GPs. There was also bonus money for the next couple on points standings in those 3 classes.

Sadly there is no doubt that GB lags behind many countries in terms of the prize money on offer. Only the Hickstead Derby, Olympia (WCQ and GP) and the British Open (Sheffield) title stand comparison with what can be won at the major overseas shows. We also need more CSI 2 & 3* star shows, such as the one held at Great Leighs (Essex County showground) before the racetrack development began. We can only envy some of the European venues (and Spruce Meadows) which stage several CSIs every year.
