I am thinking of getting a new saddle for my cob. He is very wide with a broad flat back, not much in the way of withers and enormous big shoulders. I have heard of these people but I wondered if anyone had had any experience of them? Their saddles are fairly reasonably priced too and I like the idea of a company that specialises in ponies shaped like mine!
Alternatively, does anyone have any recommendations of a company that makes good saddles for cobs? :)

Fabulous saddles, fabulous peoples! Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone (with a native or not, they fit all sorts of horses!)

Native pony saddles are very good. I have a Kent and Masters cob saddle for my wide cob which is great as it has changeable gullets so you can adjust the fit.

I just bought a second hand show saddle. It's gorgeous and comfy and fits my boy excellently. I'd be interested in getting one of their saddles with a knee roll if I fancy a jump but will need to save up some pennies again!

Go for it!! Myself and yard sharer can recommend them 200% Basically i'd given up on finding anything to fit my traddie cob - and rang them as a last resort, and lo and behold, they came with saddles which fitted and I discovered my boy had a lovely elevated trot that I'd never realised he had!

You can read our testimonial on their website. I think you have to go to the "customer feedback" section, and then go on to "our customers" - or summat. Anyway, we're the coloured cob with the "Tor" saddle.

As we live in Devon we went out to Ginny and Dean's yard and met them and their wondeful horses. They have a fantastic ethos and it was lovely to visit their yard. Very enlightening!

But basically you won't find any better saddles than these - anywhere!

I am a fitter for Native Pony and ought to clear up some confusion. NP was for many years part of Saddle Exchange Ltd, owned by Dean and Andrea, all saddles designed by Andrea, and she did all the training of agents in their fitting and all the mail order fittings. Dean and Andrea split up last year and Dean's new company is actually Woodward and Woodward Ltd though confusingly he still trades as Saddle Exchange. They still continue to make and sell NP saddles despite an early agreement that the brand was Andrea's. We hope this will be resolved very soon as it has been dragging on for far too long. Even the websites are confusing - you want the one with Phoenix saddles on it as well.

If you have any questions about the range please fire away (perhaps by pm unless others are interested?). Our makers also make £2000 ReactorPanel saddles - our Native Pony and Pheonix saddles are absolutely beautiful quality, and, as you can tell, fitting the wide tricky types is our bread and butter. They really work.

Hope Erin won't mind me saying that I'm her fitter :).

sboom - do you get in second hand saddles at all? I would love one, they sound just what I need, but I don't have the money right now. The mare is currently in a treeless and has been for some time, but has just gone to Bicton and they are using a Wintec with the extra wide setting on her. But even that feels quite perched on her back, especially as I am used to the treeless. I don't actually like the treeless, but the Wintec is not really okay either! She is so broad she practically has inverted withers!

Starbar - sorry that was a bit of a hijack.

Not often I'm afraid :(, especially in adult sizes. I can advise on what to look out for on ebay etc if you can work with me with photos etc.

The Wintec (even the Wide) is probably too narrow in the head and too deep in the panel, both of which will make you feel perched and may make the saddle unstable. The tree/saddle needs to sit in fairly close to the horse and "wrap around" it. If she really has no withers she may well be an XXW!
