Has anyone used the Native Pony Saddle Company and their fitters?

I'm still having issues with my saddle, it's slipping forwards less than it was before but that's with point straps, a contour girth and a limpet pad! To be honest it is probably an 'ok' fit now, I could carry on with it and use it without issue most of the time but... I want to make sure that I have the perfect fit as we need all the help we can get with the schooling! I now need to decide do I go back to my normal saddle fitter (who's more used to dealing with grown ups on horses) or do I bite the bullet and try a company more tuned towards fat natives and their riders.

Anyway, back to the NPSC saddles and their fitters. Are the saddles good quality? Do they really make a difference on native ponies? Are the fitters good?

PM if you need!

Thanks

I was just about to post on here asking for recommendations for saddles from NPSC and spotted this post. I was tempted to buy one a couple of years ago for my pony but got very confused as to who was who. Does anyone know who makes the Glen working hunter saddle? Have seen a second hand one that might be worth trying on a hipo but now Im really worried about its origin.

sbloom is very nice, and still fits for the Andrea Hicks version iirc - which are nice and FFionwinnie had one made for her mare as an adult on a pony and likes it very much and has reported that they were very helpful! Am sure sbloom will respond if you PM her.

I have an Andrea Hicks native pony saddle and would 100% recommend them. He goes really well in it and it fits me really well which is always trickier as an adult on a pony. It doesn't move at all and I've even been able to get on from the floor without it ending up underneath him when I've had to get off on a hack.

As Ester says I have one. There were two companies with similar names and AH saddles is the new name for one of them and the one I've used. I'm very happy with the saddle which has fitted a wide variety of cobs (it was made for my Welsh D who died 2 weeks after I bought it). I've had it for a year now and ridden in it at least once a day since Feb and regularly prior to Feb. I use it on these two plus a Welsh C. The C needs a crupper with any saddle, however it doesn't move on either of the other two and the C has been a nightmare to get a saddle for (and this wasn't fitted for her but fits, she might get her own one next year if she's a good girl!)

I'm planning to order a dressage saddle this year so I hope I like it as much as the jump saddle.

If you are thinking of going for a "native pony saddle" then DO make sure you're going with Andrea Hicks' company.

There is another company in existence, also purporting to sell "native pony" saddles. I personally have had a really bad experience with that company and got my fingers well and truly burned, as have others on here.

I will leave to to "sbloom" to go into the details. I've seen Steph at my yard in action doing a fitting and would be confident to let her fit any horse of mine.

Just take heed folks though and make sure you are buying from the right company!!!

Do a search on here under "native pony saddles" and the name of the other company will pop up......... that is all I can say, on here, in public.

Eep! I thought you were the poster that had PM'd me their review, I was so close to contacting the 'other' company as I didn't realise there was a difference. I've emailed AH saddles to ask for advise.

Sbloom fitted my Andrea Hicks saddle. I have the GP jump saddle and I love it. It puts me in a great position for both jumping and flatwork (it's not a really forward cut saddle, more like a 'normal' GP than the rest of the range which tend to be a little straighter cut)

I have the dressage saddle, fitted by Steph. Very detailed fitting and lovely saddle. I will be looking for the jump saddle next!
This was after an SMS fitter put him in a wintec which was the wrong shape for him and too small a seat for me 😡

Thanks for the nice comments about my girls. It's the same saddle in all pics.

Mine is a jump which she made to my specification last year. Couldn't fault the service at all.

I've a AH working hunter saddle that was fitted to my previous very hard to fit cob, fitted perfectly from day one. I'd had 3 previous saddle fitters with numerous saddles out to him and none of them got close to anything that fitted him. It also fits my baby cob and Andrea has been very, very helpful answering questions and giving advice to me and this is on a saddle that is nearly two years old now.

Just watch if your horse is non flat backed if using AH, they are better fitting the wide sort with no /small wither but not as great if they have a good wither I.e. TB etc
