I like the look of a natural mane and I have allowed my horses mane to grow, but I was wondering for the purposes of showing, which is better a long or short mane?

If you are going to do riding horse I assume the horse is not a cob or native so it will need to be plaited, have its tail pulled and be trimmed up so leaving its mane long may make the plaits rather like golf balls so may not look very smart. It is up to you how long you let it grow but it may be worth trying to plait to see how difficult it is to get them smart if the mane gets too long.
It should be tidy for dressage, either plaited or very neatly pulled, natives, arabs and cobs can get away with natural manes but if not one of those types it is bad form to not present the horse well for the judge.
