i am currently researching building a horse stable and just wanted to know people's opinions on whether natural soil or concreted flooring for inside the stable is better?

I like earth rather than concrete, esp if they are in there for long periods, but I think with concrete you just need to make sure you have enough bedding, and good drainage (although you still need to address drainage with an earth floor)

Out here we have natural soil. Since we are in a desert state it is sandy and drains immediately. We have no bedding at all, just lovely soft sand and every so often the whole lot is dug out and replaced with new. It's fabulous, they never have foot problems despite being stabled all the time (not ideal).

I'd think back at home it will all depend on drainage. If it's a clay soil I would imagine concrete would be a better option.

Years ago I had a horse stabled in Kent and had natural soil. It was only an issue when buckets were tipped over or there was flooding of any kind since it took ages to dry and then the beds were ruined. The siting of the stables was all wrong mind you since any outside water drained into them. I didn't stay there long...
