Had the vet out this morning as he is not quite right and the vet has advised this afternoon after blood tests, that his white blood cell count is low and he has most likely got a virus.

The vet advised no treatment, a week off ridden work but keep his normal routine re turn out and feeding. Then if he isn't any better by Tuesday another visit. I currently use Sarc-Ex powder which seems to be helping with the sarcoids but I was wondering if there was any natural products/remedies that could help him fight off the virus? He's usually a pretty healthy guy!

Thanks in advance!
(also in veterinary)

His sarcoids are tiny, largest one is smaller than half a centimetre. Also they dont bother him in any way so I don't want to go down the invasive treatment route at this stage.

Oh, I thought you were asking why I wasn't treating his sarcoids via the vet.

I have never had him blood tested before (never needed to!) and when he was vetted (August 2010) I had already loaned him so knew he wasn't drugged so didn't bother with bloods then either.

So I suppose it could be the Sarcoids causing a lower than normal WBC count, he has got quite a few but they are tiny and don't affect him day to day.

Yes, use a blood tonic like Propell or Redcell for example, basically something that gives them a good vitimin B and iron boost, helps rebuild the blood cells chances are she could be a wee bit anemic due to being under the weather.

i use global herbs Immuplus as Chico has been having intensive chemo sarcoid cream treatment and i wanted to support his immune system from the inside.

I am pleased with it so far

Iron is a pro-inflammatory drug i.e. it promotes inflammation. Why would you want to supplement this to a horse with a virus?

My mare had something like this at Christmas time. She was very lethargic, picking at her feed and just generally off colour. As with your horse her blood tests showed a very low white blood count and the vet thought it was a virus. She got no medication and kept her usual turnout routine but had a couple of weeks off work. I gave her smaller feeds as she wasn't really interested in them but what she really seemed to crave was grass, so she got to graze the verges where there was still some nice grass (unlike the field!). She got re-tested a couple of weeks ago and her bloods were back to normal. She is back to her usual cheeky self now.
Hopefully yours will be the same.
I did consider buying a supplement to help her recover but couldn't decide what to get. My instict was to keep her feeding as natural as possible to avoid overloading her system.
