Quick question - we are feeding raw but going on holiday so Rocky will be in puppy daycare for 2wks. To save them the hassle of raw we have been looking at alternatives and found our local feedbarn sells something called Naturediet (www.naturediet.net).

We feed raw as Rocky seems to be a sensitive soul :o so standard dog food comes out in a fairly messy way (even gluten free hypo-allergenic stuff).

Anyone know anything about Naturediet? Nutrition? Compared to raw?

The packet says (this doesn't mean much to me which is why I need help!):

Composition: chicken 40%, lamb 25%, rice 10%, vegetables 7%, dried egg, natural ground bone, seaweed meal

Analytical consistutients: crude protein 13%, crude oils & fats 8%, crude fibres 2.5%, crude ash 2.5%, moisture 70%

Addidtives per kg: vitamin A 2,556IU, Vitamin D3 213IU, Sodium Selenite 0.1mg, Ferrous Sulphate Monohydrate 22.7mg, Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate 6.8mg, Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate 5.3mg, Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate 71mg, Cassia 2,600mg

I found that the packets of pre made stuff gave mine the bum explosions. and they are not sensitive tums.

How about what CC said or if you can find it Albion Meat Blocks. Or if you have time berriewoods do premade packs. OR nuturing nature.

He is on Natural Instinct anyway (so prepackaged etc) - only problem is it has to be kept frozen and as a friend has him whilst we are away I can't expect her to put that much frozen dog in her freezer (she has 3 kids so space is taken up with turkey twizzlers or something!).

So I am looking at non-frozen / chilled options.

I've used it occasionally and happy with the results, just too expensive to give my big dogs regularly. I've frequently given it them with no gradual transition without any ill effects, output is smaller/firmer compared with their usual kibble, but i wouldn't say either dog is particularly sensitive. The protein content isn't really that low once the moisture factor is removed.

I gave up on this stuff after opening so many trays where the contents had gone mouldy. There comes a point where you just can't look at another pack of Naturediet without gagging!

Blown packaging issues that Brightmount mentions seem to be resolved now.

Wainwrights trays are vaguely similar but higher fibre content and a whole lot cheaper. Most have rice in them so gentle on sensitive tums.

I think if you're going to change foods for that long, you should have built up slowly, not expect the dog to cope all of a sudden. Forgive me if I'm not understanding this properly

I'd be tempted to stock up massively on Prize Choice, too. Will your mate have access to your house? Having just taken a delivery for my three today, the freezers are full of charming pig pluck/tripe etc that just comes out as and when needed.
