Horse in question had his teeth done last week and up untill that point he was going at his best really light in his contact etc however from the next day after having his teeth done he was instantly really heavy and seems really unsettled and strong!
Is it unlikely that its to do with the dentist being sore or that he feels better now and is putting up more of a fight he is 5, i am waiting for a call back from dentist to get his opinion.

I have always been advised to not ride them the day after treatment - they are bound to be sore if any work was done. It sounds odd if the change is continuing. Does he have any wolf teeth?

Mine can be snatchy for a while after treatment so he gets a fortnight off ridden work and is loose jumped and lunged instead. If it were to continue any longer than this I would get the vet back to check on him though.

My mare became very sore after the dentist, when I shone a torch in her mouth the sides of her mouth (cheeks) were really swollen. I now give her time off - a week or so - and wash her mouth out with mildly salty water. My other horse is fine and can be ridden straight afterwards - must have a more roomy skull!

Have you had a look in his mouth?

Thanks for the replies no he hasn't had or got any wolf teeth he is always very funny about you doing anything with his mouth anyway like worming and getting bit in etc so he has to be sedated for dentist
Behaviour did get worse over the couple of days but he hasn't done anything for last 3 days to see if theres any difference

yes, I had a similar problem with my youngster - all fine and dandy, then the dentist came, smoothed off some sharp edges and some baby caps came off (he's rising 4) - everything looked fine. I gave him five days off, then after that he seemed much more uncomfortable - I called out the vet and we had a good look inside his mouth - he said everything looked fine but just a bit sore where adult teeth are sprouting and a few little ulcers on sore gums , but basically fine. I gave him 2 further weeks off - he seems fine now - I think its just time, but what may have helped was I gave him warm tea and honey (ok three chamomile tea bags , one or two peppermint - put in bucket add entire kettle of boiled water , allow to brew, add some honey, top up with a bit of cold and serve - all my horses past and present love it - or just peppermint as a treat). Hope this helps.

Maybe the time off will have made a difference then really frustrating just thought it had all clicked with him now not so sure
