my young four year old has recently been displaying some strange behaviour towards another gelding that he has to walk past to get to his field. he acts like a stallion becoming aroused and whickering to this horse and its quite a stuggle to get him away from said horse. he also seems to spend rather a lot of time with his willy out, not just when he is relaxing but even when he is having a bath for example. any ideas why he might be doing this ??

I have seen this many times in my years with horses. He is just being a horse and expressing horse behaviour. As long as you are sure he is not a rig, allow him to carry on being a horse.

Some horses can create quite strong bonds with others, even if they havnt met them before, a bit like 'love at first sight'. I would just sit in the field or stand at the gate for an hour and just watch herd behaviour - its fascinating!

oh thats good to hear, I dont mind him being a horse, just wasnt sure if it was a normal behaviour as I havent witnessed this before. I often watch him and his field companion together but we had to move the youngster to a field with more grass and its since then that he has been attracted to this other horse ! thanks k
