My horse and I have just had a BIG bust-up. I've had him on loan for 2 years and he's never put a foot wrong before a month or so ago when he started jamming in the most rock solid of stops, once in a while, both at walk and trot, with rapid spin rounds. These have become more frequent, both in company and on his own, with the worst this afternoon where only 50 yards from leaving the yard he categorically refused to go forwards and ran backwards back to the yard. After 15 minutes of this I took him round a different way and we got about a mile out of the village when he repeated all this. I'm ashamed to say we did have a major slanging match about this in the road, and I feel awful about it. I'm not prepared to beat him up about it, nor do I want him hurting himself, or me, during one of his extremely rapid spin rounds, and none of this should be happening on our busy road through the village. He's a bit of a head shaker, but had responded brilliantly with a nose net until he took against that last weekend and now prefers to go without. I don't think its a back problem, but I wonder whether it's anything to do with his eyes as he seemed slightly aware of light and shade. For all his antics this afternoon he went past a barking dog which was throwing itself against the gate with all the aplomb in the world. The only disruption to his life recently has been the loaning to another yard (due to the owner's medical state) of his companion of 4 years and I wonder whether he's missing him more than we think. He's been an absolute sweetie for the two years I've had him, and this behaviour is so out of character. Any ideas or suggestions??
