naughty horse

hi.my new horse when hacked out with my other has started to threaten when other comes up behind or to the side.he not carried the threat out yet but think this more to do with the fact that the rider uses legs,hand and voice to prevent him.how do i stop this,is it because he wants to be in front or is worried by it.any suggestions welcomed.thanks

My mare does this when ridden. She doesn't like other horses in her personal space, this can be fun in the warm-up

I would just try to avoid putting him in this situation if it makes him feel uncomfortable.

Is he all right turned out with other horses? I have to be careful who I turn mine out with. She has a soggy old gelding who puts up with all her rubbish and loves her dearly

he generally ok turned out with the other but thurs when he was particularly bad on hack,when they were turned out he just turned on other for no reason and almost took a chunk out of his shoulder.there is only the 2 of them and the other is my old chap who i really don,t want stressed.(sold one horse cause it was so horrid to him)but this new one is generally really good and they share large open pen well

My mare started to do this after she was kicked whilst having a lesson. Does he behave like it with other horses or just this one?
Also he may have never been hacked out in company much-sounds mad but i know a few people who prefer to hack alone.
Also you dont say how new he is? It could settle down once he settles in your new home

My geldig does this, not sure if it is a protection thing that he does not want the other horse to overtake or just plain hate !!!

He is not to bad in walk, but nly head to head, as soon as gets any further will lunge at mates horse with a passion.

Does it with horses and ponies.
