some of you may remember from a couple of weeks ago, my springer puppy, Cleo, and the Peter Rabbit incident....... well imagine my horror when I just got up to see what the rustling noise was in the conservatory only to discover a mangled woodpidgeon with no head, and hardly any feathers left on it being chewed by said puppy ON THE SOFA!!!! AAARGH!!!!
Unfortunately she seems to be a natural retriever!
I don't want to touch it - its disgusting!!!!

If he has fab retrieving instincts, send him my way

I am a dog down for working next season

But, but, but, it's a Springer

Otto will only pick up interesting (read dead and often rotting) things when he is outside the house

Not one toy catches his attention, a rotting Muntjac's hind leg is a different matter

Ah, she may be a springer, but she is being educated in the ways of badness by a labradog and a weimaraner!! I now have blood in my dustpan where I picked up the bloody carcass and threw it as far as I could - disgusting! I was mistaken in thinking it was headless - the head was just about hanging on by sinews - I feel sick!

Sorry I meant Gina "Lab Fan Numero 1" was asking for a Springer

She won't need any help from a Lab when it comes to picking up revolting objects

Otto is never happy when he has something foul and dead in his mouth! He doesn't give a stuff about sharing his toys, but if it is rotten he becomes fiercely protective

lol! My old springer never retrieved - just killed - everything!!
There used to be a shoot on our land, and with the abundance of pheasant he once killed 12 in a week - the classic was when he presented a dead cock pheasant to the gamekeeper - not a popular move! He also once tried to take on a kestrel, but was a little perplexed as to why it was fighting back!
The weim seems to have taken on the killing mantle, the pup is just picking up and retrieving - good job they aren't working dogs eh?!!

Otto chases things, but if he caught something he wouldn't have a clue want to do
grin.gif
He was chasing a leaf today, it suddenly chnaged direction and fluttered towards him, it scared the life out of him and he shot off
grin.gif

We also have three big territorial geese on the farm, that are doing a very good job of persuading him that chasing birds is not a good idea

My JRT caught her first rabbit last month. She had gnawed them before (when cat presented them to her), but hadn't actually done the dirty deed herself before.

Disgusted was NOT the word.
