Hi all, I’m new to the Shetland world and recently bought two mares, one of which is a yearling. The eldest, honey is a dream, can tell she was handled lots but mini (yearling) is a nightmare! She’s a dream in the field mostly, can be protective of food. But the real issue is that she hasn’t got much experience with leading, casual walks for exercise have become rather stressful. She will refuse to walk, rear, stamp the floor, run ahead etc. It’s evident she hasn’t been taught properly which is frustrating because I’ve never trained a Shetland. What can I do? How can I teach her? I’ve been trying pressure and release but it doesn’t seem to work with her, she just gets angry :(

Get an instructor in to help you. As a yearling I wouldn't be doing too much with her right now. BUT you still need to be able to lead safely.
