Hey,

My horse has been diagonosed with nav today.

and with things ive researched theres tons of differnt advice.

at the moment hes only stiff for first 10mins out riding etc, hes been a bit "iffy" jumping with good and bad days. and hes carful when turning a circle. in winter hes in on a night otherwise turned out daily and all summer. his weight is good, and hes ridden about3/4 times a week. his feet arnnt great but getting better with my new farrier.

any advice/suggestions appreachitaed.

I had a mare with nav syndrome (diagnosed 1 months after I bought her with a 5 stage vetting aged 4 years!). it took quite a while but eventually we got her out eventing. lots of remedial shoing to balance her feet and lots of expensive farriers formula. Worth it in the end though.
Good Luck!

Does your horse have navicular syndrome or navicular disease?
My mare was diagnosed with navicular syndrome when she was 6 in 2002 and we thought she would be retired for the rest of her life but we have her back competing at novice affliated dressage and about 90cm unaffliated sj. We have no back shoes on her and standard front shoes. She has no supplements but is only worked hard when i am home from uni.
During her diagnosis we tried bute, cortaflex (also diagnosed with arthritis in her right hock), egg bar shoes and had steriod injections.
Feel free to ask me any questions.

How did your vet diagnose it and did they say what the cause of the navicular symptoms was? Last thing I read said there were approximately 13 different causes that could lead to a diagnosis of navicular from nerve blocks and xrays! Obviously the cause of the pain will affect the long term outcome and short/long term treatment.
My horse was diagnosed this time last year, just using nerve blocks/xray (not as good as MRI) and showed some boney change on one xray, and ligament involment couldn't be ruled out.
He was given 4 x shockwave therapy to the area, started on a high grade joint suppliment, administered tildren (1 infusion at the start and then another 6 months later) plus had his shoeing changed to eggbars with equipak pads, he has recently had the pads removed.
Within a month he was sound, within 3 months he was back dressaging and within 6 months he was jumping. He is now doing elementaries and 1m/1.10m sj. There is hope!
