As post says, horse lame and xrays show cyst on navicular, prognosis not bright, any experiences I would be interested to hear good or bad. Thx

Do you mean a bone cyst, like a hole in the navicular bone? Or an odd lump attached to the ligaments?

Many bone cysts are pretty hopeless from experience and from reading many articles and studies, all depends on their location really. Unless you have cash to waste trying different treatments, if its inoperable get horse denerved and carry on until something else breaks.

Sorry to sound harsh but vets may not say this directly and may wait until you have wasted a year and several thousand pounds before coming to this conclusion.

Thanks for honesty. He has a cyst nearby where the ddft is on the nav bone. This showed last year on an xray but was lame on the other leg. We have had a good year but now lame on the leg where they suspect the cyst showed up. I will have him xrayed to see if there are any changes and that's it. He may well become a beautiful field ornament and become companion to my mare who at the moment we are hacking out alone together. We miss him on our rides. Hoping for the best. Such a shame. I thought I might try clicker training him to do various little things to keep his brain active but not too much strain on his legs if worst comes to worst. I would not nerve him or anything invasive, just would'nt feel comfortable that.
