Navicular Disease Question and Bute Question

Sorry if this seems a really dumb few questions:

How long does bute stay in a horse's system?
I am getting a horse revetted after he trotted up lame and he is now on bute. I want to have him revetted but the bute must be out of his system.

But there is also a worry that he may develop navicular disease. I was just wondering if someone could explain what happens, and how serious it is.
I know it is pretty serious btw

Hi, bute stays in the system for three days. One of my horses developed Navicular syndrome when he was 17yrs. He had never had a lame day in his life but this seemed to trigger something through compensating when he sprained a foreleg tendon.

The AHT at Newmarket diagnosed this for us and gave us expert advice and there was light at the end of the tunnel. With correct foot balance and shoeing, my horse was sound for another 5 years - and because of this did not need pain killers. He led a perfectly normal life being ridden as before (no competing). (We never over did the trotting on the roads - not before of after diagnosis but he had raced up to the age of 12yrs.)

Please seek expert advice on this. There is no need to lose a horse or retire it so long as it receives the correct treatment i.e. exercise regime and correct foot balance etc by a suitably qualified farrier. The AHT will have a list of one in your area.

Please get a referral to the Animal Health Trust at Newmarket they are a diagnostic centre and see this all the time.
