Navicular- General advice needed

Hello, a few months ago my boy went to the vets and had X-rays, for seperate reasons, but when they came back they said that it is possible he may develop Navicual disease as there were a few abnormalities that may cause problems in the fuure (or may not). Although there are currently no problems I would just like to get clued up a bit more on this as I don't really know too much on this. I have started reading up on some points but I would just like to know that know I am helping him as much as I can now instead of waiting for problems to start arrising. Also is there anything I can do to help him. He is on Tumeric and linseed oil and is a healthy weight. Would appreciate any information you can give. Thank you :)
 
They were in both hind legs. However the left I believe is slightly worse. He was shod on his backs for a year or so but has gone back to not having shoes now!

And the specific abnormalities they were suggesting would predispose to navicular, given that a lot of navicular syndrome is linked to soft tissue strain rather than an issue with the navicular bone itself.

Not having shoes is an excellent start to avoiding issues :).
 
The vert said it could only be a possiblility but on the xrays there were some grey areas that the vet said were increased desity. They said it could of just always been there and is just how he is made up or it could of come on gradually but only time will tell. I think I am a bit of a stressy mummy so just wanted to get some information and make sure I am doing the right thing rather than making things worse.

No backs anymore and as I said he only had them for a year or so anyway.
 
Ive been looking at a lot of advice as my horse has it and everyone has recommended mineral supplement I'm using pro hoof of eBay.
 
Keep his shoes off if you can . Make sure he gets regular trims .
And keep him moving with work and as much turnout as possible .
 
He is on Tumeric at the moment but will have a look at pro hoof as well thank you. Any other ones that may help? He is currently being fed Alpha A, Fast Fibre and Tumeric.

And yeah He will probably have his backs off from now on and is shod every 6 weeks as he has fronts on. He is currently out all day and ridden most days but where I am during the winter is limited turnout and they get funny when it rains! Really hard to find a stables with any turnout during the winter near to me :( Which is a pain because he doesn't like being stuck in all day anyway!
