I have a horse who has Navicular and I was considering having shockwave treatment ... anyone have any experiance in this field or any comments re this? thanks
My horse had lesions on his tendons caused by rubbing on a 'rough' bit on the navicular bone. He had 3 lots of shock therapy on both forelegs as a last resort after having 6 months off work.
Amazingly, he is now sound and coming back into work slowly.
I must admit though when I watched it done it makes you doubt whether it will work. It was literally 1 minute on each leg x 3 (a week apart).
But it obviously did

A guy called Rooney dissected loads of "navicular" horses and he found that every horse with rough navicular bones had lesions on the tendon, but not every horse with lesions on the tendon had rough navicular bones. The evidence pointed very strongly to the rough bone being caused by the rubbing tendon, and not the other way round. (The rubbing tendon is caused by a toe-first landing.)
OP if you have shockwave therapy and it doesn't work, do consider a barefoot rehab, because there are stunningly good results coming from the research being done in this area. You can find out more at rockleyfarm.co.uk if you are interested.
