Aghhhh another ranting post (we all love them)

Took my green boy out this morning along the quiet lanes, he's come on leaps and bounds with traffic bless him, but today we came across a rubbish truck which frightened him so he stopped (perfectly understandable) the truck stopped and one of the men got out and asked if I wanted him to lead my horse past. I was happy for him to do so as he obviously knew how to handle a horse. We started to go past the truck nice and calmly and a stupid idiot on a 50cc moped came flying down the lane towards us. The helpful gut put his hand up to stop him but NO he swerved into us and nipped in between the horse and the truck ( about a four foot gap) Pringle jumped to the side but I managed to catch him and the nice man stood to the side of him and calmed him for a minute.

I'm so proud of my boy he handled himself so well considering.

The thing is it's not like he's a little 14hh pony he's a 16.3hh shire x I would not want to be taken out on a moped by a horse certainly not that size and between a rubbish truck!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!

But many humble thanks to the man who gave my boy a reassuring hand. What a gent.

Sorry for the ramble :)

What a nice man to help lead the horse past the truck, you find so many people just want to get past you as soon as possible that it's nice that someone doesn't mind stopping and helping for a minute. Makes up for the ignorant moped owner. Maybe if he actually considered what over half a tonne of horse landing on him would end up like he wouldn't do it again!

I always take a schooling whip and I wanted to crack him in the visor with it but obviously that's not being the sensible one plus it would scare my boy... :p

Yep everyone else we saw on the road today was great which really boosted Pringles confidence, it was nice to see he wasn't fazed by the silly kid on the moped and didn't damage the hard work we've been doing.

funny i was thinking along the same lines.....
any well done for the progress you have made with your boy!!

personally i think a lot of plain stupid kids on mopeds could do with nearly a tonne of horse sat on them..it would do a lot of them the world of good ;)

We have very considerate bin men and if you have the time, drop a line to the Council and let them know the route you were on and the day, it never hurts to let the powers that be know what we think of the humble bin men, I have done this in the past after an incident I had and they were very appreciative of being told. A proper written thank you goes a long way, because they do have to deal with some really nasty people in their job.

What a considerate man! I think it would be really nice to write to the refuse company too. And what a **** of a motorbiker. I'm very off motor bikers at the moment as one spooked my horse two weeks ago; not slowing down and noisy engine. I ended up on the ground with the horse as he slipped and fell when he spun around. :( Motorbiker continued on his merry inconsiderate way and two lovely care ladies stopped their car and picked me up and ferried me back to the yard whilst a neighbour who saw what happened came running out and helped my friend lead the horse home. At times like this we are so grateful for the kindness of strangers. I didn't get their details or I'd have sent them some chocolates to thank them.

Dreckly that's a great idea. Although I hope he wouldn't get in trouble for some kind of health and safety breach, we all know what the council can be like sometimes HeHe.

I agree TrasaM those people really do cancel out the bad ones sometimes. Ultimately it's usually the kind considerate people who stick in my mind as they tend to go out of their way for you.

Wow how horrible :( well done to you and that bin man for getting Pringle through though! Me and my horse also nearly met our ends recently at the hands of a looney, I honestly believe the woman driving her Volvo at 70mph just didn't see us or even notice we existed despite the reflective gear etc. Swooshed past without a single glance in our direction and an inch or two more she'd have lost her wing mirror on my mare's rear.

Stupid cow! I don't get it though, even self preservation should make you slow down , they can't seriously be that damp upstairs that the idea of flying last a half ton animal could end badly for everyone. I'm sure she'd slow down if it was a child playing with a ball because nobody wants to be a child killer. Killing an adult and their horse is fine though of course!!

What makes me more angry with them is I can't go after them and tear them a new one!!

I've had near misses when people just can't wait 5 seconds for the road to be cleared to overtake. There is a motorcyclist who uses the road we ride along and can normally hear him coming for about 2-3 minutes before you actually see him. One time I was riding down the road and the lovely car drivers coming towards me all slowed down. Along comes motorcycle man, pah - why should he sit behind these slow moving vehicles?! They clearly can't be going slow FOR A REASON!!! He overtook all the cars at speed in the middle of the road towards me. Cue me frantically waving arms around! He then promptly pulled back over looking rather sheepish. I expressed my upset when he rode past!

I would have punched him in his idiotic face.
Yes I'm afraid I'm a bit fiery, get it from my mum but I know I'd be justified in doing it!

If you wrote to the Council you wouldn't have to say he lead your horse, just that he was extremely considerate and helpful to you and your young horse in what could have been a scary situation.

Sounds like Pringle is going to be a trooper.
