Still shaking. Mum phoned at 4 to say Gus was down in the field, caught in the fence, not moving & she thought he was dying. I zoomed up the road praying & Got to him still down in the field, with Mum & my 2 cousins piling rugs on him & we tried to get him up but he didn't have the strength. He wasn't trying to move & was barely breathing, I put his head on my lap out the mud & waited for him to stop breathing.

Fire Brigade arrived & pulled him to his feet & pulled the fence down round the yard so we could get him straight into a stable. Vet arrived a few minutes later. He was in shock, has just avoided his flexor & has damaged his eye quite badly, ripping the inner eyelid & who knows what else, vet not sure if it will recover yet. Vet will be back 1st thing tomorrow to staple his leg & decide whether he's to go into the vet school for his eye.

I can't explain how close I thought we were to losing him, Everytime he exhaled there was no inhalation for about 30 seconds, I kept waiting for him to give up.

I don't know that any other horse would have survived, he's just such a fighter. Don't know how long he was like that.

I adore that pony.

A huge thank you to Sea_View & her brother who were 1st to him after Mum, and Strathclyde Fire Brigade, who probably won't read this but will be getting a huge thank you directly too

Eating well but really jumpy coz he can't see out that eye, eye not looking great, ick streaming down his face which I assume is grit & stuff, but it's very yellow. Eye seems more swollen now, I think, but he might have been rubbing it as there's nothing on it to stop him. He's being a total sook but I think thats got a lot to do with him not seeing out that eye. Keeps putting us between him & the door.

Thanks again dude. And at least the chocolate eclairs stayed clean!

Iain's main worry clearly had been the eclairs!!!

Think he'll be putting you between him and the door as security as he'll be feeling vulnerable. Hope he has a comfortable night and all goes well with Susan in the morning. I'll pop over and see him when I'm up.

Ta, Ross just popped in on his way past. He wasn't happy cos the leg bandage had soaked through with blood, so he's redone it with different dressings. He's happier with his eye & more concerned about his leg. Because the leg was ligatured there is a chance he could show tendon damage as late on as 10 days after. He thinks the eye might have ulcerated but didn't want to poke about too much for a better look.

OMG! Hun! Huge hugs and some sweet tea for you!! Sending healing and calming vibes for Gus. Poor chap. What lucky, tougher fighter he is! Looking forward to updates!
