Vet has suggested trying horse on a nebuliser to help his asthma/hay fever. Has anyone any tips for getting him to accept it? Also anywhere I can buy a Flexineb second hand? Thanks

I put a couple of carrot slices in the bottom of mine and then he shoves his nose in immediately. He is very good orientated though. He seems fairly happy once it’s on.

There is a Facebook group ‘Equine Asthma, respiratory and COPD support group UK only’. There are often nebulisers on there for sale, I bought mine on Facebook marketplace and also also managed to find one for a friend too. The group is quite useful and may be able to offer some advice on acceptance, just ignore those who continually plug salt therapy.

I used this on my mare as my big one would have scared her. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q4WSNSC?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title worked really well and light weight

I used an older version of this on my old stallion and it worked really well.

He was very very head shy but once he worked out it helped he was fine with it.

This might be a cheaper option to start with until you can work out if its useful for your horse and then purchase a 'proper' horse nebuliser later on.

I must have been lucky because I just got my nebuliser ready & put it on my gelding & he just accepted it.
Same. Except he did get bored after a while just standing, and would start swinging his head around - he shook front pipe off it a few times and I had to duck tape it on. I sold mine on Ebay.

Second everything in this post. Although sometimes you are not saving much on the price of a new nebuliser. Is your horse insured as my nebuliser was covered by insurance.

Are you looking to use inhalers or nebuliser meds? I found as the nebuliser is silent horse accepted it very well as there was not the puff noise of the inhaler to startle them. I started off just putting the bucket bit on, then used it but with the bottom valve open for a couple of times until horse was 100% happy then closed the bottom valve. I cross tie in stable door and get on with yard jobs whilst it is nebulising. It has been a total game changer for mine.
