Neck Cradle...

Has anyone used one of these? My vet has loaned me one to stop my horse chewing a wound on her knee. Is there any rules on how tight these should be fitted? the one he gave me is secured with rope, not leather straps.

I had one, never used and sold it on Ebay, and that is about as much knowlege I can shed on this matter....
