After ongoing problems with the right rein but an otherwise sound horse, we decided to take some neck x-rays. We found a fracture up near her poll in the form of a fairly significant bone fragment
We are off to the RVC for a CT scan so we can fully assess the damage and see if the nuchal ligament has been damaged.
I of course will be lead by my very good vets, but just looking for any similar experiences and what the outcome was. We think caused by hitting her head at some point, or pulling back, not that I can recall any such events!
She is only 6 and is comfortable in the field & hacking in straight lines. Her only symptoms are a dislike of any form of right bend, and finds it near impossible to canter on the right leg unless in a straight line out hacking. Left rein is great!
She also has 1 set of touching vertebrae in the lumbar region but we think this is a red herring as she doesn’t palpate as sore and shows no other symptoms of it being a problem.
