Old boy has rubbed his neck raw or his rug has done it The rug comes off regularly but he has a sore where the rug and withers meet. I have taken off the rugs and given extra hay hopefully as it is dry but a bit chilly his neck will heal over the next few days, He will need a rug if it gets wet and windy so how best to do so without damaging the new skin. He is awful in a combo rug trashes all the fencing and the standard neck is the one that has rubbed I wondered about using memory foam around the neck edge of his rug

I quite like the horsewear rugs that don't have any fleece or padding at the withers for this reason - it could be nonsense, but the way I see it is that there's no fleece patch to rub/extra material for friction or extra weight to press down there.
(This is where you say he was wearing a rug without any fleece whither pad already!)
If not, maybe see if you can source a HW rug? Or a sacrifice rug and sew in a front rider pad to keep it lifted off his withers perhaps?
Adorable Alice made a similar post not long ago, maybe have a look on there for other ideas.
I hope you sort him soon and he's not too sore :)
