just wondering about rugging necks

whats people's thoughts, pros?cons? does it restrict movement when eating? and do they make the horse feel colder when rugged in a non neck covering

i like them because...
they are warm
keep the horse clean
and combo rugs dont seem to put presure on the withers.

some people say that the mane gets rubbed but i have never had this.

We have just put ours in a combo 2 weeks ago and found it does pull some of his mane out, but also it doesn't seem to be rubbing him where as his rug with out a neck did.

I like some, Ive never used combos until this year, weatherbeetas seem to give a nice amount of room, saxon to narrow and pull the rug up off his back too much.

Also they now use big thick bits of velcro to fasten them I need my spinach to get the flipping things undone

my rugs ahve all got detachable neck covers, which i find work well, as you have a lot of flexibility over whether to use them/whether neck is needed if slightly warmer etc, so makes the rug much more versatile
i use my rambo duo for everything, can alter weight, alter neck, and so it is suitable for all weathers, this therefore has saved me buying other rugs
i have never found the neck cover to rub the mane off

I've given up using hoods on my IDx coz she ends up with about 1/3 of her mane missing. It comes out by the hand ful. I'd rather she had a mane & have to do a bit more grooming...

I like them because they keep my horse warm, clean and dry. I also find they encourage her to graze in bad weather rather than stand by the gate looking miserable. I tend not to use them so much when she's not clipped (only in really foul weather). All my turnout rugs have the option to attach a neck (I have a Rambo Duo, a couple of Mark Todds, a FAL Bulldog and a Rhino Plus).

My girl is grey so I love rugs with neck covers

Personally, I prefer rugs with detachable necks because she's got a good neck and the one and only rug I bought with attached neck rubbed her mane away.

Could have been the fit but I now always use detachable necks and don't have a problem because I think there's more room for movement in them ?
