So, after the horrifically worrying day when Ned escaped, I've been ever so nervous about going to see them, just in case I see the gate broken again and a horse missing.
It's been about 10 days since that happened and both me and the horses are getting more relaxed each day. For instance, they both used to come charging over to me when they saw the car pull over and cling to me until I left, where they would wait and the gate.
For the past few days, they've not even bothered coming over! They look up, then go back to grazing. They did wander slowly over today, but they thought I had treats (it was a grooming kit lol!)
I gave them both a brush, then they slowly wandered off again.

Cookie is getting to be quite the porker, I did buy him a muzzle, but the cheeky git had it off within hours!! I tried plaiting it into his mane, but he still got it off (without undoing the plait...how?!!!) Any ideas on how to keep it on?
Since it's all calmed down, I'm going to make sure I lunge/long-rein him every day. I've been so busy sorting out that bloomin' field for them, that I've not had time to do anything with them!

Ned, please continue to be a good boy...
Cookie has obviously grown thumbs, but that isn't unusual in the shetland! Next time, chain and padlock him into it, and witness Houdini in action!!

How are you managing with the 'gate' area? What is working?

Ah good to hear :) Chester takes Frolics muzzle off. Even now he has the proper green guard head collar he still does. He just undoes the buckles on the actual muzzle. Not very helpful.

re: the gate - The metal and wire mesh seems to be working! I don't want to speak too soon or relax for a while yet, but the first few days I had the metal in, he did try and get out, but I've not seen him try for about a week now :)
